Joshua W. Neuenschwander is the Assistant Professor of Music – Instrumental Music and Music Education at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls
At the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, Dr. Neuenschwander conducts the Symphony Band and St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra and teaches music education courses. Prior to his appointment at UWRF, Neuenschwander served as the Director of Instrumental Music and Assistant Professor of Music at Cornell College, the Director of Bands (Adjunct) at Grinnell College, and as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the University Bands at the University of Iowa. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Wind Band Conducting from the University of Iowa where he was the recipient of the Myron D. Welch Conducting Fellowship, Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting from Oakland University, and Bachelor of Music Education from VanderCook College of Music where he graduated as salutatorian of his class. His principal conducting teachers include Dr. Richard Mark Heidel, Dr. Eric Bush, and Dr. Gregory Cunningham.
Dr. Neuenschwander is active in the music education community as a frequent clinician and guest conductor. He has also been invited to speak at multiple state conferences, giving presentations on topics including conducting pedagogy, strategies for effectively programming music by historically underrepresented composers, and ideas for young teachers to build cultures of success in their music programs. Dr. Neuenschwander is available for guest conducting, clinics for middle and high school band programs, and presentations and professional development for music educators. He is also experienced in custom drill design and marching band arranging, having written multiple shows for performance by the University of Iowa Hawkeye Marching Band in Kinnick Stadium as well as for high school bands.
